I think you are both losing your clutches. I had the same things happening to my '87 and I tried a lot of different things and finally one day it slipped so bad I didn't have to wonder anymore. Though when mine first started like yours it went for about 2 riding seasons before I had to do something about it.

P.S. have you tried the tire against wall test. (put bike in 2nd gear with front tire against wall and let clutch out slowly, giving slight throtle, if it stalls your clutch is in ok shape if not then it's time for a little trip to the shop.)
